Galway Racecourse is one of our premier racecourses, located only 6km from Galway City centre. Galway stages usually 13 race days year, both Flat and National Hunt, including the iconic seven-day long Galway Summer Festival held in late July and including the August public holiday each year.
Galway Racecourse, better known as Ballybrit to the locals, is a right handed and almost rectangular circuit of 1 mile 2 furlongs with a sharp decent to the turn in and uphill finish of 2 furlongs offering fabulous viewing for all races. Unique for having the last two fences within a few strides of each other Chase races are always exciting to watch, especially the prestigious and valuable Galway Plate, held on festival Wednesday each season.
Aside from the seven day long Summer Festival Galway stages two other excellent festivals during the year, the two day September Festival and the three day October Festival. The October Festival features 2 days of top quality Jump racing on the 28th & 29th followed by a busy Bank Holiday Monday 30th October meeting of Flat racing.
